Scorer for Treherbert : M.Hutchings try and conversion and 2 penalties

Within five minutes of the start Rumney found themselves six points down after giving away penalties for obstruction and offside, both of which were kicked by Treherbert full back Matthew Hutchings. The visitors were always looking to attack out of defence and Matthew Maclean, Danny Clark and Chris Jones gained plenty of ground with Rhodri Hanmer, Dan Clements, Gethin Tattersall and flanker Will Price all looking dangerous in opposition territory. Both sides seemed evenly matched until the thirtieth minute when Rumney lock Jamie Brain took clean ball at the back of a lineout near the Treherbert tryline and supported by Hanmer, No8 Carl Barker and prop Charley Gale, drove forward aided by second row Luke Egan and flanker Michael Kelly. As the forward drive continued the ball was slipped to hooker Michael Feneck who chose the ideal moment to dive over for the try which brought the score to 6 - 5. A minute before the interval the Red Devils struck back from a close range scrum with scrum half David Cambourne working a miss move to put Hutchings through a huge defensive gap to score under the posts. The fullback's conversion gave a half time score of 13 - 5.

Treherbert attacked from the restart, but the visitors' defence was sound and counterattacks frequently took play back into Treherbert territory where Maclean, Clements, wingers Michael O'Neill and Joey Offside and Kelly all threatened to score. Penetrating breaks by scrum half Ben Morris and Man of the Match Hanmer increased the pressure and Treherbert were forced into conceding a penalty which Maclean succesfully kicked in the sixty fifth minute. Rumney spent the final quarter battering the Treherbert defences with Morris, centre Paul Niblett, Gale and Jones finding gaps and Price and hooker Neal Ritchie probing effectively, but the home side managed to break down the attacks and the score remained at 13 - 8 until Haydn Davies blew the final whistle.
