Rumney's devestating brand of attacking rugby was on display from the start when full back Matthew Maclean and No8 Chris Jones romped upfield to the Treorchy tryline and scrum half Ben Morris burrowed straight through the swarming forwards to score the first try in less than a minute. The visitors responded with high paced attacks but eventually conceded possession and Rumney outside half Danny Clark and Maclean kicked well to clear and Morris tore up the touchline to take play back into Treorchy territory. After twelve minutes visiting scrum half Rory Woods made a stunning forty metre break from a scrum on the halfway line and set up a threequarter movement from which centre Craig Davies dummied through for a well taken try. Within two minutes Rumney were back in the lead, following excellent lineout work by flanker Ryan Sutton, rapid delivery by Morris and Clark and a huge pass by centre Ian Blackburn which allowed wing Dan Clements to coast over for a first class touchdown. Home prop Nathan Trevett was in top gear when he split the defence and took play way upfield where the Zebras gave away a penalty and from the subsequent lineout and threequarter movement storming centre Ian Blackburn powered his way through six tackles to score.
Trevett and fellow prop Rhodri Hanmer were proving unstoppable in the loose where their speed and handling skills gained vast amounts of ground. Second row Luke Egan provided steady and reliable possession and in the twenty second minute Morris and centre Paul Niblett combined to send Maclean away for an outstanding try and conversion, taking the score to 22 - 5. Three minutes later, after more interplay between the backs and forwards, Morris's clever flick pass put Sutton in under the sticks and from the restart Trevett, Niblett, Jones and hooker Neal Ritchie combined to start another sweeping movement leading to Maclean's second try and conversion. Shortly before the interval Maclean gathered a loose ball on the half way line and started an attack which was carried on by Ritchie, Morris and lock Michael Kelly and was finished off with a second Clements try.
The half time score of 43 - 5 soon became 50 - 5 when elusive runs by wing Henry Amadife and Blackburn freed Clements again and he galloped down the line and cruised in under the posts for his hat trick. Clements was immediately back in action when he took his turn to start a movement and Amadife and Blackburn broke through to supply Clark with the opportunity to go all the way for another well taken try and conversion. In the sixty fifth minute Maclean weaved his way fifty metres through desperate tacklers to complete his hat trick and soon prop James Harris finished off a forward drive with another touchdown. As the final whistle approached Sutton again stole possession at the line out and flanker Ryan Fenton, Clark, scrum half Gethin Tattersall, Clements and Niblett combined before Sutton himself rounded off another magnificent try and Maclean's conversion concluded the scoring at 78 - 5.
Danny Wilson, Coach Rumney RFC : "Another pleasing performance with some of the best tries I've seen this season, in fact some of the best tries I've ever been involved with. We changed a few people around from the Hirwaun game and showed that we can be ruthless and professional, and we kept up the intensity right to the end. Treorchy have a lot of good players and this could have been a banana skin but I was very pleased with the result. Props Rhodri Hanmer and Nathan Trevett, both our hookers neal Ritchie and Michael Feneck and lock Luke Egan had excellent games. Michael Kelly was outstanding from every kick off and the back row was awesome. The Man of the Match was scrum half Ben Morris."
Neal Ritchie, hooker Rumney 1st XV : "Everyone played well and Ben Morris was absolutely superb. Matthew Maclean and Rhodri Hanmer had brilliant games and it was nice to be going forward all the time in the scrums."
