Three superb converted tries and a penalty kick put Rumney back at the top of the League Division 2 East table and confirmed a return to the outstanding form with which they started the season. The home side looked sharp from the beginning with full back Paul Nash and winger Joey Offside immediately attacking from deep, second row Andrew Gardner and prop Charlie Gale carving out gaps and flanker Ryan Sutton taking charge of the line out right away. Brynithel were also ready to play an attacking game and half backs Mark Rossitter and Sean Pitt were well organised and supported on the offensive by lively flanker Kevin Day. Rumney scrum half Tom Dickens and outside half James Macdonald were firmly in control, Dickens making telling breaks which tied in defenders and Macdonald's long, accurate line kicks relieving any pressure and taking his side deep into opposition territory. Captain and centre Paul Niblett had also been proving to be a handful from the start and after ten minutes, when Sutton took clean lineout ball and Dicken's lightning pass found Macdonald, the fly half sent out a fine long pass to the centre on the burst who sliced through tacklers and raced twenty five metres. Niblett drew in the remaining tacklers and full back Nash was perfectly positioned on his shoulder to take the pass. Having covered fifty metres at top speed, Nash's clever running off the ball gave him a clear sprint to the line and he eluded the pursuing tacklers to touchdown for an excellent try. Macdonald's touchline conversion went straight between the sticks and within two minutes the outside half was again confidently sending out another massive pass to Niblett as his backs went on another offensive. Possession had come from more top quality lineout jumping by Sutton and this time Niblett scythed through from far out, dummied the full back and scored the second outstanding try himself. Macdonald's conversion meant that within five minutes Rumney had scored two fine tries and put themselves into a 14 - 0 lead.

Rumney's versatile front row forwards Rhodri Hanmer and Michael Feneck were finding more room in which to operate and were snapping up any loose balls and driving forward, and with Macdonald returning any loose kicks with interest, the visitors were frequently on the backfoot. Brynithel were now more settled at forward and playing a successful, tighter game with No8 Lee Meredith linking well with his backs but the lighter Rumney forwards, particularly Will Jones and Chris Jones, were creating havoc at times and Dickens gained vast amounts of space as he shot through defensive gaps. Despite a number of effective Brynithel attacks, excellent Rumney tackling prevented any scores and at half time they maintained their fourteen point advantage.

Good play from both sides characterised the start of the second half with Rumney again looking particularly sharp behind the scrum. Centre Ryan Westaway, flanker Ryan Fenton and Hanmer all maintained the momentum and did excellent work clearing up and securing possession. Brynithel continued to concentrate on their strengths with driving flanker Craig Llewellyn and Meredith setting up chances for centre Dean Slimmon and wing Simon Pitt, but the home defence held and Macdonald again drove them back with long touchfinders. Sutton still dominated the lineout but clever variations saw Will Jones also taking clean ball and with Chris Jones roaming through the midfield Rumney could be seen to be taking greater control of the game. When Dickens snapped up a turnover ball it gave Macdonald time to set up another of his accurate long passes, this time to Westaway who drew in tacklers and set loose winger Hanry Amadife. From within his own half Amadife handed off tacklers and chipped ahead and when the division's most deadly finisher regathered the difficult ball on the twenty two, no defender had any chance of preventing him from gliding in under the posts, scoring one of the season's best tries. Gethin Tattersall put over the conversion and in the seventieth minute accurately kicked a penalty to put Rumney into a 24 - 0 lead, and with Gardner, Will Price and Georgie Kemble patrolling midfield and Dickens and Macdonald controlling play, Rumney cruised to full time and the sound of Neil Howell's final whistle.

George Kemble, hooker Rumney 1st XV : "Things went all right today, it was good. Brynithel had a big pack but we coped with it in the end, the lineout went well and Andrew Gardner, Ryan Sutton and Paul Niblett were outstanding".

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "Rumney were well worth their win, their very young packed worked extremely hard and the back row was outstanding. Ryan Sutton ruled supreme in the lineout and second row Will Jones was excellent . Behind the scrum Tom Dickens and Paul Niblett were outstanding and Henry Amadife scored the most brilliant try of the game."

Philip Hanmer, Rumney RFC : "In the first half Rumney annihilated Brynithel but then we went to sleep, we need to be more clinical. The lineout was excellent with Ryan Sutton pinching a lot of ball, it was well orchestrated with the lifters doing a very good job, they got him in exactly the right place. Paul Niblett was excellent , he made the first try and scored the second. It was a pleasing win but we will have to play even better to beat the top sides in the division."
