Rumney Veterans travel to Geneva, Switzerland to take part in the Hermance Region Rugby Celebration Tournament on Saturday June 22nd 2002. The Celebration of 30 years of rugby in Geneva starts on the evening of Friday 21st with a Gala Dinner Dance - menu : prawn mousse with salad, veal cutlets with mushrooms, wild rice with sprigs of spinach, vanilla slice. Saturday's tournament takes place in the Marius Berthet Stadium, Chens-sur-Leman and starts at 9.00 am with the Veterans' competition, Rumney playing three games and finishing at 1.00 pm. This is followed by a Junior competition and a Women's game between Yverdon and La Roche before the afternoon clash between Hermance RFC and the Swiss Barbarians (who have selected Thomas Castagnede, Christopher Juillet, Philippe Saint-Andre and Oliver Roumat). Saturday evening is devoted to 'Voguing in Hermance' with live music, beer and champagne, starting at 6.00 pm.

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "Considering the age of the Rumney Veterans side, they played superbly. The average age of the forwards was fifty four and the average age of the backs was forty eight. Ken Gooding, at the age of sixty five, played in all three games and was voted Man of the Tournament. It was a wonderful weekend."
